PATTERSON, DAVID CHARLES “Dave”– Died suddenly November 19th, in Nashville, TN. Born March 11, 1949, in Glasgow, MT, survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Gibbs Patterson; beloved son, Will Patterson; sister, Patrice (Stevan) Steinhart; niece, Whitney (Scott) Newlin; brother-in-law Hal (Laurie) Gibbs all of Nashville, TN. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillyan Blair Patterson & his father, Maj. H. H. Patterson (US Army). A retired senior safety consultant/manager, he was a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN, earned a BS degree from Belmont University, an MS degree from MTSU & was a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He was a professional member of the Middle TN Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, served as its president & was selected as its Safety Professional of the Year. As an avid runner, he qualified & ran the Boston Marathon, ran the Strolling Jim 40 Mile Ultra-Marathon and won his age group in the TN ½ Ironman Triathlon Championships twice. A Celebration of Life will be held at West Harpeth Funeral Home on Sunday at 3pm. Visitation will precede the service from 1pm-3pm.     Barbara & Will our hearts are broken over your loss of your wonderful, beloved husband & father. Please know we are continuously thinking of you & praying for you; I simply cannot find the words to express our deep grief & sadness in our hearts for you as you go through these extremely hard days of realizing his loss.     Dear Barbara, Will, and Patrice, We are just heartbroken . To lose someone so special and so loved so suddenly is stunning and we know your grief and sadness are overwhelming. He truly was a great man. He even got us to go out at midnight on New Year’s to watch him run in the marathon ! Now that man could motivate people ! He had a great smile and always greeted us with hugs.     So sorry to hear of Dave’s death. What a loss to the world. I will always remember him as a smiling, laughing, person who loved life and his family. Haven’t seen any of the Nashville running group in years, but memories are forever. God Bless. You guys are in my prayers.

    I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I have great memories of running with Dave and listening to his laugh and encouragement. He always knew how to pick you up and make a training run enjoyable. I consider it an honor to be able to say I once ran with Dave. He always had time for you and was a true friend. We have lost a good man. He will be missed by many.

    Barbara, I was saddened to hear of Dave’s passing.
    Our paths intersected often as much younger men;
    summer job at BSSB, students at Belmont, running, etc.,
    and warm memories of the camaraderie from those associations
    have tempered the sadness. And I recall the very night the
    handsome young man took his beautiful bride. It seems like only
    yesterday. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with
    you and your family.
