Real friendships are meant to be treasured, and Jerry was a treasure to me and so many others. After working together many years ago, we valued our friendship and enjoyed staying up-to-date on “educational news”, “sports news” and of course, our children and our grandchildren. With birthdays one day apart, we always remembered the other with a card. Mine, so recently received with his special note inside, will always be a reminder of his thoughtfulness and also of the brevity of life–no idea it would be the final card. Toby and I looked forward to his visits and the opportunity to recall happy school experiences and the special students we taught along the way. I thought my 33 years was a long time to teach, but “wow” more than 40 for Jerry! Just think how many lives he influenced during that time! You’ll be missed by many, Jerry, but will live on forever through the good you shared with others.

To the family my sincere condolences. I just found out from a former co worker of Coach Cathey a Ms. Flemming that he had passed away. He was a terrific P E Teacher at Gower 1970’s. I remember Kite Day, Movies in the cafeteria ‘Red Baloon’, giant parachute, and he always made our day when he had to be a substitute teacher. I will always have fond memories of Coach Cathey 😇 if only all PE teachers could have been as good as he was.
