Captain Arnold was a great leader to serve under when I was in the National Guard. I always looked forward to seeing him when I attended the annual Christmas luncheons with members that served in our company under him.

John ran a company the size of a batallion that was the division rear with many officers senior to him and all reporting someone else many lt col. col majors . The enlisted men reported to him as well as to their sections. He had a huge job jugeling everything, making peace and getting the job done and still retaining the respect of everyone. He was a uniq person and a great officer.

I have always enjoyed visiting with John and Shelva. They have come to our family get-togethers often and we feel as if they are part of the Hammers family also. John was warm, friendly and so very intelligent and could talk about anything. I always enjoyed laughing and talking with him. My thoughts and prayers are with Shelva, Kenny, Pam and all the rest of their family. I am so sorry for your loss. John was a wonderful man.
