LAIRD, James "Joe", 55 of Nashville, TN passed away December 23, 2010. He is survived by mother, Joan Laird of Traverse City, MI; loving wife of 28 years Rhonda Laird; children, David and Allison Laird; brother, Ben Lorraine Laird; sister, Gloria Gail Jeff Idama-Laird; nieces, Emma and Marie Laird; A memorial service will be held in July 2011 in Traverse City, MI.     I wanted to express my condolences. I was in the Spirit of Gold from ’88-’92, and don’t think I ever saw Dr. Laird without a smile on his face. He was an inspiration to many with his joyful spirit and his amazing talent! Thank you for sharing him with us!

    Dr. Laird was an inspiration to all of us in the Vanderbilt Band. I really enjoyed his marching arrangements and I loved Jazz Band under his direction. I learned a lot about music and life from Dr. Laird. He will be missed.
