I am so sorry I was unable to see you at the funeral home or attend your mother’s funeral. I have been in the hospital this week and was not strong enough to come today. Your mother was such a sweet person. She and your father were always so kind to my mother, Frances. I especially wanted to come because I am the only one of my mother’s daughters who would have been able, but it seems I was not able either. Time is affecting us all. My sister Kathy is in the hospital in Houston recovering from a very serious infection that got into her blood stream, my sister Sally (Sara) is recovering from a recent double mastectomy, and I was discharged from the hospital the other day following a serious problem with my blood sugar. Your mother lived a good long life but I know that you will miss her. No one ever takes the place of a mother. Sue and your father Ray were wonderful people. I used to so enjoy seeing them at our family gatherings. As I am sure you know, you cannot replace a lost parent, but time heals those wounds and we go on with hope of seeing them again someday in the next life. You will be in my prayers.

    Linda and Leanna,

I was saddened to learn of your mother’s passing. I had not seen her in some years, but always enjoyed visiting with her. She was such a warm, vibrant and interesting woman, full of life, gracious, and cordial, and so capable. I admired her abilities and how handsomely dressed and coifed she always was. I know my mother always enjoyed seeing your parents. They had such good conversations and loved family history. It is never easy to part with one’s mother, but for those of us who are Christians, we know we will see them again one day, and what a comfort that is. If I had been in Nashville, I certainly would have attended her funeral and burial, but I live in Houston now and was in the hospital as well. When I do visit Nashville, Polly and I often visit Cheatham County and the Hudgens Cemetery. I have compiled a directory of all those buried there, including several without markers. There are five generations now. Blessings on your family.
