Richard Wray Osgood – Age 72, passed away February 26, 2018 in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Osgood is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Penelope Osgood; daughters, Meg Osgood Chapman (Brett), Jane Osgood Broussard (Zan); granddaughters, Edith Jane Chapman, Emmaline Wray Chapman, Alice Jane Broussard; brothers, David Osgood, Dennis Osgood, and numerous nieces and nephews.

To know Rick (Oz) was to know joy, laughter and forever a good time. Rick had a passion for his wife, daughters, and granddaughters, family and friends, and Harley-Davidson’s (MCCHOG).  Rick, Dad, Poppo was loved immensely.  He was generous, sensitive and kind.  His loving spirit was so large that it has left a void that will be hard to fill.  If the road was long and wide you can bet Rick was on it.  His only plan was “Plan A”, no plan at all.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Belle Meade United Methodist Church with visitation from 1 pm to 3 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or Belle Meade UMC.

To know Rick was definitely to know joy, laughter, and a forever good time! Rick’s DCS family misses him so much. I have been in the same Monday morning meeting with Rick for 3 years and coming into the room without hearing him say “Hello, Lisa!” will be a difficult change. Rick had an incredible zest for life – he enjoyed talking about his family and his motorcycling at work as much as he did at home! He was always positive, inquisitive, ready to teach, and ready to learn. These are all qualities that I hope I will also have in 25 years when I’m Rick’s age! My most sincere condolences to all of Rick’s family members and community. He touched so many people, and I am one of them. Blessings.

I had the pleasure of working with Rick when he first came to our department. He was a great boss; perpetually upbeat and encouraging, and I never once heard him say anything unkind about another person. I have two daughters who are on the verge of adulthood and I remember him once telling me not to worry so much that I may be losing them as he had come to love and appreciate the people his daughters had become as adults every bit as much as he had enjoyed and loved them as children. I took great comfort in that and always appreciated his warm enthusiasm when he talked about his family.

I know how devastating this must be for each of you. Rick has been much in my thoughts the last few days and your family is in our family’s prayers.

Several years ago, DCS leaders participated in a training designed around how we could and should interact with the media. Rick was my partner and I have felt a special bond with him since that time. We would often tease each other about our “media debut”. Rick had a passion for life and DCS. He loved his family and we would often share grandchildren stories. He was always available to staff en even when we were on the far end of the state. I would always reach out to him if I thought it was a situation that warranted an IA. Sometimes he would laugh and say, you can handle that one! He will be sorely missed. I feel very honored to have known and worked with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family .

Rick was one of my favorite people! He always had a smile and a kind word. Rick spoke so fondly of his family and how much he loved his wife, children and son-in-laws and he would share how much he enjoyed spending time with all of granddaughters. We will all miss Rick so much.

Kind, friendly, loving and giving. His smiles shared with all and his laughter resonated in any room he shared with others. A talker, who loved to share stories and his humorous take on life, but also a listener. Thankful we got to know him and his family. Sending love and prayers for strength to Penny, Meg and Jane and the Osgood family and friends.
Your Motorcycle Riding family will miss you.

Kind, sweet man I had the privilege to know. Had the pleasure of many bike trips and get togethers. He was always smiling, and so kind and will be terribly missed. My heart and prayers go out to Penny and his loving family.

It was always a joy to see and speak with Rick. When I joined DCS 5 years ago, I met Rick and always saw him in a suit and tie. So the first time I saw him in boots and leathers, I had to look twice. I went over and told him I almost didn’t recognize him without his suit and tie. I couldn’t believe it when he said he was turning 72 on Saturday….I said no way. I am so thankful to have known Rick. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.

My deepest sympathy is extended to your family during this time. Rick was a very sincere and genuinely nice man. I have worked with him on several occasions through the years and he it was always a pleasure to work with him. I also had times that I would have to call on him for assistance on a work process and he was always willing to offer help. He was a great partner to our team. Rick will be greatly missed, not just because of his work, rather because of the kindness and sincerity that he showed to everyone. Praying for your family through the difficult days to come.
