Betty "Nana" J. Akers

Betty "Nana" J. Akers, age 70, of West Nashville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2025. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Thomas W. Akers, and her beloved sister, Meredith Goodwin.

Betty is survived by her loving sons, Wayne Akers (Beth) and Tim Akers (Kate); her cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Riley, Claire, and T.J. Akers; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.

Betty, or “Nana” as she was affectionately known, was deeply proud to be from West Nashville, where she was born, raised, and spent her entire life. She cherished her roots and community, and remained close with dear friends from elementary school throughout her life—a testament to the loyalty and warmth she extended to everyone she met.

She dedicated over 40 years of service to Vanderbilt, where she built a meaningful career and formed lifelong friendships—something she was incredibly proud of. After retiring, she embraced a well-earned season of rest and joy.

Betty and Tom shared a love for travel, especially beach getaways, and she never passed up a good shopping day. She delighted in hosting poolside gatherings at her home, where she was happiest entertaining family and friends around her swimming pool.

Above all else, her greatest joy came from being a proud mother and grandmother. She poured her heart into her family and rarely missed a moment of her grandchildren’s lives—from school events to sports and everything in between. Nana was their biggest fan and fiercest protector.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, passion, hospitality, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. As the cherished matriarch of the Akers family, her presence was a guiding light and a gift. Her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her.
