Dorothy Glasgow Anderson, retired missionary with the United Methodist Church, died peacefully on November 18. 2018. She was 90 years old. Born on December 22, 1927 in Nashville, she served as a missionary on the continent of Africa from 1954 to 1983. After she retired from the mission field, she taught mathematics at Father Ryan High School, retiring as the chair in 1996.

During her twenty years in Mozambique, she organized adult literacy programs, taught in two theological schools, organized women's groups and spearheaded a youth scholarship program for secondary education. In Kenya she provided leadership training and prepared lessons in Bible, health and family planning.

She received a BA in mathematics and physics from Vanderbilt University where she met William F. Anderson, who preceded her in death on November 18, 2008, exactly ten years earlier. She is survived by Scott Anderson, Lynne Anderson Collier (Sonny), and Neal Anderson (Jamie Baker Roskie), and two grandchildren, Grant Collier and Avalon Collier.

Upon retiring from the mission field she not only was a math teacher but involved herself in the Nashville community. She participated in volunteer mission teams to Mexico and Kenya. She also maintained her involvement in the United Methodist Women and served on the board of the local United Nations Association.

She will be missed by all at Belmont UMC, which has been her church home for her entire life, and the organizations and friends in Nashville and elsewhere that received her attention. "Famba kwatsi, Mamani Dorofi!" in the Xitswa language of Mozambique, or "Go well, Mother Dorothy!"
