George Alvin Otto, Jr.

January 30, 1960 — May 5, 2025

Greenbrier

George Alvin Otto, Jr., of Greenbrier TN, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 65 years old.

George was born on January 30, 1960, at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia, to George Alvin Otto, Sr., and Ursula Brenneis Otto. Born into a military family, he spent a meaningful part of his childhood in Germany, experiences that instilled in him a lifelong sense of curiosity and resilience.

He went on to build a dedicated career at Skyway Studios, where he worked for many years in maintenance, studio setup, and camerawork. George was a natural problem-solver — he loved fixing things and could repair just about anything. Whether working in his garage, building something new, or lending a hand to others, George approached life with quiet strength and a generous heart.

He enjoyed time outdoors and especially cherished family trips to Buford, South Carolina. More than anything, George loved his family deeply and selflessly, always putting the needs of others before his own.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Alvin Otto, Sr.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Vicki Hemby Otto; his children, Jessica Otto and Aaron Otto; his mother, Ursula Otto; siblings, James (Manuela) Otto and Diane Grooms; and niece and nephews, Michelle, Kevin, and Steven. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and beloved friends.

Visitation will be held at West Harpeth Funeral Home on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A Memorial Service celebrating George’s life will follow at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of West Harpeth. He will be laid to rest afterward at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens.

George’s legacy of love, humility, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in George’s name to Vanderbilt – Ingram Cancer Center or Alive Hospice: two organizations that provided excellent care to George and his family.
