Howard Leon Saunders, 80, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 5, 1945, to the late Finnis and Josephine LaPorta Saunders. He was raised by his late mother and stepfather, John Lobenberg, in Chicago. He later moved to Cape Coral, Forida, in 1998, and then to Nashville in 2019. Howard was a gifted machinist and enjoyed tinkering with things. He liked redoing car engines and working on anything mechanical. He also enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, and singing. Above all, Howard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Saunders; and sister, Sharon Lobenberg.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving children, Cassandra Lynn (Paul) Vitella, John Saunders, and Brett (Crystal) Saunders; grandchildren, Stephen Vokoun, Tanner Vokoun, Kylee Connelly, and Malyia Saunders; sister, Linda (Edward, Sr.) Colaprete; nephews, Craig Adelizzi, Eric Kroner, and Matthew, Colaprete; and a host of extended family members and beloved friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held this summer in the Chicago area.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Howard’s name to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) in appreciation for the love and care provided to Howard.
