Jimmie Louis Chapman went to joyfully meet his Lord and Savior face to face on July 13th, 2024, at age 86. He was born on May 30th, 1938, in Paris, Tennessee to Bert and Polly Chapman. He was the third youngest of six children, with two brothers and three sisters. He attended Lee school, Atkins Porter middle school and Grove High School in Paris. On May 28th, 1955, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Kibbons, and set out on their life journey together, moving from Paris to Chicago, back to Paris and ultimately ended up settling in Pegram, Tennessee in 1963, all while raising their four children.
Throughout his life he held many titles among them were police officer, carpenter, teacher, and cabinet shop owner, but the most important was Pastor. He was called to preach in 1965 and gave himself to the ministry of God's word. He attended Trevecca Nazarene college and Immanuel Bible College in Nashville and was ordained as a pastor into the Church of the Nazarene in 1975. He returned to school later in life and earned two doctorate degrees in theology.
He is preceded in death by both parents, four siblings, his loving wife Carolyn, son Timothy and great granddaughter Emma. He is survived by his children, Stephen Chapman (Sherry), Jennifer Chapman Kaufman (Phillip), David Chapman (Diane), grandchildren, Misty Heitman (Michael), Carrie Thomas (Keith) and Rachael Mahan, eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
While he lived his life to its fullest, enjoying many things such as his family, camping, gardening, woodworking, and UT Vols baseball and football, his truest love in this life was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He, along with his wife Carolyn, raised his four children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, showing each of them the way to the Lord that he loved so much through his daily walk and loving fatherly guidance. A devoted and loving Husband, Daddy and Granddaddy, he was loved and cherished by his family and all who knew him well and will be so deeply missed.
A Celebration of Jimmie’s Life will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, July 19, 2024, at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. A private burial will take place in the Bluff View Memorial Gardens.
