Joseph
Spiva
Aug 8, 1951 — Oct 16, 2026
Nashville, TN
Joseph Spiva, age 75, passed away in Nashville, TN, on October 16th, 2026.
In his passing, Joseph rejoins his parents, Thurman and Gladys Spiva, and his brothers, Donny and Buddy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Spiva, and their children; Kelly Espioza, Jimmy Holder, and Teresa (Chris) Howard. As well as his granddaughters, Nealy (Danny) and Shelby, and five great grandchildren.
Joseph was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and with it, had a great love of all Tennessee sports. In his youth, he spent his seasons playing football, baseball, and basketball. When he entered college, he spent time as a women’s basketball coach and shared his enthusiasm for the sport. Joseph pursued a career with Nashville Metro Water Works and spent a faithful 30 years there, where he ensured all his coworkers knew what UT had scored the night before.
Fall was Joseph’s favorite time of the year. He spent his evenings sitting on the porch, listening to music, or cheering for the next touchdown. After watching the sun set, he would retire to his chair, and prepare for a long night of watching NCIS, Law & Order, or Criminal Intent. During his time away from the house, he also enjoyed a warm day on Panama's beach with his granddaughters and family -- so long as he could wear his UT shirts.
Joseph leaves behind his cherished family, and favorite dog, Emmie, but his legacy does not end today. Through every game night, shared joke, or criminal show watched, a bit of his memory remains with us.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date, but the family invites you to come and celebrate his life well lived.
