Joyce B Manyik, of Nashville, passed on at home on Friday, May 10, 2019. She was the daughter of Keith and Minnie (Eaton) Burgess. Joyce was born on March 17, 1930 in California. She graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's in Business Administration. Her high scholarship distinction earned her membership in the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. She left California after marrying her husband, Bob Manyik on August 31, 1952. Together they raised two daughters in St. Albans, WV where she and Bob lived for over 57 years.
Over the years in St. Albans, Joyce was very involved in a wide variety of aspects of the community. She played the piano for the St. Albans First Church of Christ, Scientist for over 40 years, besides serving in many other capacities at the church. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters, including serving as President of the Charleston League. Joyce spent many years as a volunteer lobbyist for the WV League, where she was voted by the State Legislature as the most trustworthy lobbyist. She also enjoyed serving on the Charleston Solid Waste Management Board, ultimately becoming its President.
Joyce was an avid traveler. She and Bob traveled together extensively in the US and throughout the world. She was always eager to discover and explore a new destination. Other interests Joyce loved were reading, knitting and counted cross stitch. Of course, she loved visiting with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in later years.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bob Manyik; and by their children, Cathy (Charles) Kresge of Midland, MI and Margie (David) Parsley of Nashville; by their grandchildren, Selena (Bryon) McCarthy, Alex (Sarah) Kresge, and Colin Kresge; and by their great grandchildren, Joscelyn and Brennen McCarthy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 3:00pm in the Celebration Hall of West Harpeth Funeral Home in Nashville, TN. Gathering hours for family and friends will begin at 2:00pm until the time of services.
