Judith Houke Cassetty, affectionately known as Dr. Judith, was born on February 15, 1942, in Honolulu, HI, and transitioned peacefully on January 26, 2026, in Nashville, TN. She leaves behind a legacy of inspiration and love, having touched the lives of countless individuals through her extensive career and personal endeavors.

Judith dedicated her professional life to education and advocacy. As a Professor at the University of Texas, she imparted her wisdom, humor, and charm to students, profoundly influencing the next generation of educators and leaders. Her role with the Attorney General of Texas stands testament to her commitment to social justice, where she played a significant part in reshaping Child Support Laws that benefit many families today. In a remarkable display of entrepreneurial spirit, Judith founded a successful home health care company while also lecturing at local universities, sharing her insights and vision with her community.

Judith was a single mother who exemplified strength and devotion. She skillfully balanced her career ambitions with her family responsibilities, ensuring that her children enjoyed home-cooked meals, family engagement, and the attention young hearts deserve. Her unwavering love for her children was evident in every sacrifice she made to create a nurturing environment.

Judith's personality radiated warmth; her sharp wit and playful humor endeared her to many. She was tenacious in her beliefs, advocating fiercely for causes close to her heart. Whether championing the underprivileged or igniting passionate debates on political, theological, social, and cultural issues, she garnered respect and admiration, fostering deep connections with those around her. Her zest for life was reflected in her gardening hobby, where she flourished in cultivating tropical flowers in Texas and peaches in Wisconsin, always enlisting the help of neighborhood youth to maintain her beloved garden.

She is survived by her son, Elliott Cassetty (Veronica) and daughter, Perian Cassetty Strang (Sam) both of Nashville, TN.

And four grandchildren, Sam Strang, Holland Strang, Pia Strang and Drew Cassetty.

Judith joins her late husband, Dr. Alan Lockwood; her mother, Mary Davis Houke and her father, Thomas Henry Houke, joining them once more in the embrace of eternity.

Judith's legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and an unyielding spirit that inspired many to pursue their passions while caring for those in need. Her impact will be felt for generations, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
