Julia McRell Gregory, a strong-willed and compassionate woman known for her open heart and steadfast faith, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 22, 1933, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Julia lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and community.
Julia cherished her family above all else and was a devoted member of Eastwood Baptist Church, where her love for God and fellowship quietly inspired those around her. Sunday family dinners after church were among her greatest joys, serving as cherished moments of togetherness and love. Her door was always open to friends and neighbors alike; she was a good listener who treated everyone with kindness and respect.
She found pleasure in simpler pastimes such as cross-stitching, solving crossword puzzles, and keeping up with her favorite television programs including The Young and the Restless and The Price is Right. Cardinals held a special place in her heart, symbolizing hopes and cherished memories.
Julia’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by those she held dear. She is deeply mourned by her daughters Kathy Kemp (and her husband Marcus), Angel Hill (and her husband David), and Dorothy Blackwell; and by her son John Gregory. Cherished sisters Aline Hastings and Margie Thompson remain steadfast pillars in her family’s life. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who were a source of her immense pride and joy.
Her family also honors the memory of those now departed: her beloved husband of 38 years, Andrew Gregory; her children Luke Gregory, Shirley Hider, and Vanessa McCoy; and her sons-in-law Charles “Bubba” McCoy and Ken Blackwell. Their memories remain treasured and woven into the fabric of her life story.
The community will gather to remember and celebrate Julia’s life at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209. Visitation will be held on May 26, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on May 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow on May 27 at 12:00 p.m., with burial at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 TN-100, Nashville, TN 37221, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Julia McRell Gregory’s enduring spirit, her boundless love, and her unfaltering faith will long resonate in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her. In her passing, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion, a true testament to a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Eastwood Baptist Church.
