Katherine Green Huskins

August 7, 1930 — May 19, 2024

Nashville

Katherine Green Huskins was born on August 7, 1930 in Harrison, Tennessee and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 19, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Being born in the depths of the depression, she was strong-willed and a survivor. Her favorite expressions were “you do the best you can with what you have to do with” and “getting old ain’t for sissies.” She would advise her grandchildren to “be sweet and behave,” but when the sentiment was returned, she would respond with “I’ll be careful” or “I won’t get caught.” She was funny and loved life and her family. She collected jewelry and antiques, with a particular affinity for depression glass. She loved everything pink, lacy, and glittery.

She was called Katherine until her 50s, when she married Willard, the love of her life. Willard called her Katie, and she became Katie for the rest of her life. Willard and Katie moved to Nashville in 1990 to help care for and be a major part of the lives of their grandchildren, who called her “Gran.”

She is survived by her daughter, Terry (Ed) Rappuhn; stepson, Steve (Donna) Huskins, grandchildren: Allison (Jacob) Beck, Andrew (Jamie Zakalik) Rappuhn, Tanner Huskins, Hannah (Tyler) Palmgren; and great grandchildren: Thaddeus and Sophie Beck and Addie Kate Palmgren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Huskins, parents William and Lottie Green, and siblings Hoyle (Estelle) Green, Eva Jean (Carl) Graham, and Melvia (Bill) McInturff.
