Martha Ann Rutherford, 86, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025. She was born on March 20, 1939, to the late Emmett Elder and Mattie Walker Sullenger in Moore County, TN. She was of the Church of Christ faith. Martha retired from Kroger where she worked for 25 years in the Deli and Bakery. She was an avid reader and Harry Potter fan. She loved nature, particularly birdwatching the cardinals. “Granny” loved her sweet tea surrounded by her family and friends. Above all she loved people and being with her family. She was a loving “Aunt Mark” to her nieces and nephews and a devoted Granny to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Otis “Buddy” Rutherford; grandson, Nathaniel Rutherford; siblings, Jean Larkins, Billie Glenn Sullenger, and Joe Paul Sullenger; and niece, Shannon Hobby Campbell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Annette (Tony) Curtis; grandchildren, Michael (Ambrea) Curtis, Heather (Max) Beard, Courtney Curtis, and Nicholas Nicholson; great-grandson, Mason Beard; niece, Melissa (Kenny) Nicholson, and a host of extended family members and beloved friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 3:00PM until 7:00PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 11:00AM until 1:00PM in the Chapel at West Harpeth. A Celebration of Granny’s Life will begin at 1:00PM. Following the service, Granny will be laid to rest in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens on Highway 100.
