Sherry Greer Downing

Sherry Greer Downing was born April 20, 1947, to Anderson and Marie Greer in West Nashville. She departed on July 28, 2025, surrounded by her children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Downing; son, Andy Downing; mother and father; sister, Patsy Greer; and nieces, Gina Walker and Terry Biggs Knight. 

She is survived by her daughters, Sunny Showah (Jason), Mandy Beth Stewart (Tim), and Lisa Carter; son, Nicky Weiss (Cindy).Grandchildren: Anna, Marlee, Jacob, Noah, Meagan (Kelvin), Morgan (JP), and Nikolas. Great-granddaughter, Willow. Daughter-in-law, Suzanne. Brothers: Wayne Greer (Maxie), Ray Greer (Carol). Mother-in-law, Margaret Downing.Several nieces and nephews, great and great-great; goddaughters, Vanessa Stickler and Shelley Morton; and in-laws from Willie’s siblings. 

She grew up in the Nations of West Nashville and attended Cockrill Elementary and graduated from Cohn High School in 1966. She married Willie, the love of her life, a month later. They settled in Pegram in 1976. She had a career at Loveless for over 34 years. 

She wore many hats as the matriarch of the family. She lived for her family and close friends, took any child or adult in that was in need, and made sure no one ever did without, especially her children. She was loved and will be missed by many. 

Other than the love for people, her favorite thing to do was deep cleaning her house (and others she visited), and her last wish was “Don’t let me go unless my house is clean.”

Special thanks to friend and devoted family caregiver Renee Walker for the past 15 years, and nieces Dona and Candace for all the help and support. 

Visitation will be at West Harpeth Funeral Home on August 4, 2025, from 4-8 pm and August 5, 2025, at 10 am with services starting at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens following the service at 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, Tennessee 37221.
