Roy Pittman

William “Roy” Pittman, 86, of Kingston Springs, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. He was born in Shelbyville, TN, on March 25, 1935, to the late Clell and Willie Lankford Pittman. He was of the Christian faith. Roy enjoyed all things NASCAR and John Wayne. He liked working on anything with a motor, playing solitaire, reading, history, and of course, he loved flirting with women. Roy proudly retired from the United States Navy with over 20 years of service during which he served in Guam, at the US Naval Air Station, Glynco Georgia, and the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, and on the USS Kermit Roosevelt, USS Guardian, USS Guada Canal, USS Forrestal, and the USS Lawrence.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Elsie Agin Pittman; siblings, BettyJane Pittman and Jerry Pittman; stepson, Thomas Tomassone; and step-grandson, Steve Tavares.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving daughters, Belinda Pittman (Richard P.) Swafford and BettyJane (Jesse) Thomas; stepchildren, Cheryl Alexander, Jeanne DiFlaco, and Mary Lenkewicz; siblings, Kathrine Blindt, Terry Pittman, and Clella Pittman; grandchildren, Christopher R. (Leslie) Swafford, Charles, R. (Leah) Swafford, Brandon M. (Crystal) Scruggs, Karla N. (Jessica Knowles) Swafford, Krista N. Swafford, and Ariele S. (Jared) Blankenship; step-grandchildren, Donny Alexander, Ricky Alexander, Sheri Lynn Alexander, Donna D. Hawes, Jane Andrews, and Mark Lenkewicz; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Scruggs, Layla Scruggs, Wells Swafford, Lane Swafford, Maddox Sheffield, Rowan Swafford, Emersyn Swafford, and Bailey Rose Blankenship.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 3:00PM until 7:00PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 10:00AM until the 12:00PM funeral service in the chapel. A committal service will follow in the Rotunda at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in William R. Pittman’s honor.
