Our Caregiver of the Month: Mechelle Campbell

Jan 27, 2018
Our final Caregiver of the Month for 2017 is Mechelle Campbell of Highpoint Hospice. She has been a nurse for many years, but as you will read, her passion for helping others still remains as strong as ever! Please join Family Legacy in congratulating Mechelle! Mechelle was my mother's (Sandra Meadows) hospice nurse September-October 2017. She was also my father's (William House) hospice nurse in 2013. Seeing her walk through the door at my mother's house gave me so much peace and comfort because I already knew the kind of caring and compassionate nurse she was and also because she was a familiar face. Mom talked often of Mechelle's kindness and gentleness and taking the time to talk with her and get to know her. The day my mom passed, Mechelle had come in and checked her vitals. She went so quickly and peacefully. I wanted my husband to go get my daughter in Franklin, TN so she could say her goodbyes before the funeral home came to get Mom's body. Because we didn't call the funeral home right away, Mechelle stayed with us. During our conversation, I asked her why she was still with hospice. I had not recognized anyone else from 2013. I will always remember what she told me, "I've been a nurse for 26 years-this will be what I do until I retire. I know it's a calling from God and where I need to be." Those words ministered to me in a powerful way and I was so very thankful God gave her to my mom to be her nurse; and also to my dad in 2013). She took the time to get to know my mom; she knew what was important to her; what she liked to do; she knew mom loved to read; loved golf; Atlanta Braves baseball. I think what makes Mechelle's work outstanding and exceptional is this isn't just a job; it's a calling on her heart and her life; a true joy to do the work God has called her to do. She was definitely one of God's angels sent to minister to my mom and take care of her during her time left on this earth.
