Our Caregiver of the Month: Tierra Dunn

May 29, 2017
We are excited to announce another amazing caregiver for the Month for March, Tierra Dunn. She was recently the employee of the month as well at Guardian Hospice and you will see by her story that she truly fits the model of a loving caregiver. From a family member: I have to admit that I do not look forward to the day when I need assistance to be fed, when I can't bathe myself or get to the bathroom and have to wear a diaper. I watched my grandmother slowly lose her ability to care for herself. For a few years she had to depend on others to help her. She was a pretty independent woman and it hurt my heart to see her not be able to enjoy life, as she did for most of my life. After we had been admitted to Guardian earlier this year, during the first visit with Tierra Dunn, her hospice aide, my grandmother, told my mom and aunt... "Well that was the first real bath that I have had in a long time." She was sassy at times and would give Tierra a hard road to go, but Tierra showed up for months and loved my grandmother. She helped her find joy in the day by being clean and more importantly respected for who she was as a person. Being on the road frequently, Tierra would snap a pic of her and Gran and send it to me so that my grandmother could say "hi". It really helped me knowing that while I was out of town, Gran was cared for by an amazing team, but specifically from her hospice aide, Tierra. Giving the gift of dignity to the patient is immeasurable, but this gift also is given to the family as well. There's a great sense of peace that comes from knowing that someone treats your loved one with the respect and dignity he or she deserves. A special thank you to Tierra who consistently gives more than she could ever get. My grandmother and my family loved her willing, kind spirit and care. At the end of twelve months the review committee will select the Caregiver of the Year to be revealed at the Annual Luncheon. The Caregiver of the Year will win a 3-night trip to Florida, $200 spending money and an engraved gift and plaque. Do you know a Caregiver? Nominate them today!
